Birds of Bahía de Caráquez

birdbook

Casa Ceibo has taken the lead in publishing the first-ever book of the 360+ birds that can be seen around Bahía de Caráquez as well as the surrounding Manabí region. The book has been created to raise awareness about the area’s prolific birdlife, and serve as a field guide for a growing number of tourists and birdwatchers who are coming to the area to witness both endemic birds and those foreign to Manabí.

A joint project — spearheaded by Casa Ceibo’s co-owner Daniel Jácome, along with two internationally renowned ornithologists, W. Miles McMullan and Andres Vasquez — the book features colorful illustrations and is formatted in a checklist style for tracking sightings. In addition to the book’s key project coordinators, a number of sponsors have also made this 24-page book possible, including Ecuadorian Tours, Vuélvete Verde! and Embajada Británica Quito.

Of note, it’s possible to site many birds without leaving Casa Ceibo’s property, considering over 50 species have been spotted around the beautifully manicured, bay front grounds. The bird book makes a perfect souvenir and is available for purchase at the hotel’s front desk.
