Isla Corazón and Frigate Children’s Eco Club

ecoclub2Protecting the environment for generations to comes starts with education children about its importance today.

And that’s why Casa Ceibo has teamed up with Metropolitan Touring and the community of Puerto Portovelo to donate working materials, chairs, tables and uniforms for the children attending this unique eco-club that was initiated by Ecuador’s Ministry of Environment.

Nature guides teach dozens of children ages 4-11 about the importance of the mangroves and the Isla Corazón Community Ecotourism Project. The goal is to not only help them appreciate the environment but develop a passion for protecting natural resources that will ultimately enable them to excel scholastically and professionally. In addition, the eco club supports poor children by giving them an appreciation for a local tourist attraction, especially teaching them to refrain from begging, to take pride in all that Isla Corazón offers, and to learn skills and responsibilities that uphold the appeal of this important tourist attraction and environmental “gem.”
