Is a small and beautiful city located on Ecuador’s central Pacific coast in the province of Manabí. Known simply in Ecuador as “Bahia”, Bahia de Caráquez has a rich and interesting history. Based on the book “The History of the Quito Kingdom”, written by Juan de Velasco, Bahia is the location that the aborigine tribe “Los Caras” first arrived in South America on balsa wood sailboats. Later this same entry point was used by the Spanish when they entered South America on their quest to conquer the Inca. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Bahia was Ecuador’s major port. At that time, the bay was a deep water port.
After deforestation in the 20th century, silt was washed down from the Andes during numerous rainy seasons making the bay much shallower. Guests will explore the city in Bahia’s famous ecotaxis.. |
