Amazonia — The Amazon Jungle Basin of La Oriente

Known to the locals at “La Oriente,” the Amazon region comprises half of Ecuador yet only five percent of the country’s residents live here. Utterly wild and incredibly fragile, the tropical rainforests of the Amazon harbor highly complicated, exotic life forms. Here, visitors can learn about the forest’s complexity, and its delicate relationship with the nature that’s at hand, as well as the world beyond. Tens of thousands of species of plants, over 500 types of birds, and the largest variety of amphibians on the planet claim this Ecuadorian jungle basin as their home.
